Tabletop RPG Club!

Providing a fun, naturalistic environment for teens to learn social skills and much more!

We will be holding a weekly club open to the public for anyone ages 13-18. We will be playing tabletop role playing games to provide a naturalistic environment where teens can learn social skills. This will be organized and operated by a few of our registered behavior technicians and provide a space for neurodivergent individuals to work on socialization and functional gameplay skills. This is not exclusive to those individuals as we wish to provide a space that is inclusive and accepting of all.

How can tabletop role playing games help neurodivergent individuals?

Social Skills

Tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) can be a valuable tool for improving social skills in neurodivergent individuals. By participating in RPGs, players can practice crucial social interactions such as collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork in a structured and supportive environment. Role-playing as a character allows players to experiment with social dynamics, empathy, and perspective-taking skills. The game setting provides a safe space for individuals to engage in social interactions at their own pace, boosting self-confidence and social competence over time. Additionally, RPGs can facilitate bonding with peers who share similar interests, leading to the development of lasting friendships and a sense of community.

Time and resource management

Playing tabletop role-playing games can be a valuable tool for helping neurodivergent individuals enhance their time and resource management skills. Engaging in these games requires players to strategize, plan ahead, prioritize tasks, and manage limited in-game resources effectively to achieve their goals within the game world. This immersive and interactive experience can provide a safe and structured environment for neurodivergent individuals to practice these important skills in a fun and engaging way that can easily translate to real-life contexts. Through playing tabletop role-playing games, individuals can improve their abilities to allocate time and resources efficiently, leading to increased independence and success in managing everyday tasks and responsibilities.

Organization and Independence

By participating in RPGs, players are encouraged to create and manage their characters, including keeping track of abilities, inventory, and goals. This process can help improve organizational skills by requiring players to maintain detailed character sheets and track their progress throughout the game. Additionally, RPGs often involve problem-solving, decision-making, and social interaction, all of which can contribute to developing independence and confidence in neurodivergent individuals as they navigate complex scenarios and collaborate with others in the game world.
